Accountkit – A service provided by Facebook released in 2016, aims to provide a user authentication system without needing a password. Means, you can log in to any website, or a mobile app without needing to register with a username/email and a password. So it provides a better-secured user account where you don’t have to remember a password, how cool is that? 😄
The Accountkit service is mainly seen used in mobile apps. I’ve seen a lot of apps require only a phone number, which sends a 4-6 digit OTP and you can log in instantly ⚡️. You can also log in by email as well, without needing a password.
There was no plugin available for WordPress, except few paid ones. I needed it for a project of my own, so I built and released on in WordPress.org.
You can log in with your phone number, but as you would need an email address to be registered in WordPress, the plugin uses your phone number to generate an email address, like
email@example.com, which is obviously a fake one. But if you already have a user account, which you will, you can associate your phone number with your user account.
You can login with your email address as well.
There is also a widget available to put in anywhere in your site.
